The CIT Program at Camp Huguenot

Ages 14-15

The first step in our rigorous staff development program, the Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program at Camp Huguenot is a challenging and rewarding introduction to the world of camp counseling. Combining formal leadership training, service learning opportunities, and daily practical experience working with small groups of children, CITs acquire skills to make them more responsible, creative, and mature. This position requires a mandatory day of training and a minimum two week commitment.

CITs spend about half their day assigned to a huddle of younger children. Under the supervision of a full counselor, CITs gain experience leading small and large group activities, supporting children who may need extra attention, and acting as a role model of the YMCA core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, and caring. When not working in huddles, CIT time is devoted to leadership training, team building, service learning, and recreation.

Teens interested in the CIT program must complete an application, an interview, and provide one letter of reference. To download an application, please click here.
